Gynaecology Cancer and Colposcopy
Cancer
Bedford Hospital offers a full service for the diagnosis of all gynaecological cancers. Some cases are then referred to Addenbrooke’s, whilst a significant proportion are managed here in Bedford. Some patients may then require additional treatment in the form of chemotherapy, which is usually done at the Primrose Oncology Unit at Bedford Hospital, or radiotherapy, which is done at Addenbrooke’s.
The long-term follow-up care of all patients is conducted in a separate clinic at Bedford Hospital.
Colposcopy
Bedford Hospital has one of the best-performing colposcopy units in the UK as a whole. The clinic offers a timely review and treatment of women with abnormal cervical smear tests. A female nurse colposcopist is also available.
Both services are consultant-led by Jullien Brady, supported by Montasser Mahran and Karl Hattotuwa.
Gemma Lowe provides nurse-led colposcopy and Lesley Gillon is the clinical nurse specialist for gynaecological oncology patients.
