Bedford General Practice Specialist Training Programme, now hosting fourteen trainees per year, offers a varied range of educational opportunities, with 18 months each in primary and secondary care settings. This allows a trainee to put together a portfolio of experience which helps them best prepare for general practice.
secondary care posts include obstetrics and gynaecology; paediatrics; accident and emergency; psychiatry; palliative care; general surgery; trauma and orthopaedics; ENT; and general medicine.
There are GP training practices in and around Bedford who are able to provide an excellent learning experience ready for a GP career, and trainees are able to choose which Practice they go to for their ST2 and ST3 placements, which we will endeavor to accommodate.
The GP ST Teaching Programme runs every Thursday afternoon during term time, encompassing a range of topics and themes that are incorporated into the Programme.
We run a residential training course each year which is valuable for both education and personal development.
We aim to support our trainees and prepare them for all of the challenges of GP training, and then for a successful subsequent career.
The two training programme directors (who can be contacted through the Learning & Education centre) are Dr. Toni Munno and Dr. Peter Wilkinson.
Application for the Bedford GP Programme is through the East of England Deanery and full details can be found on their website.
