Shuttleworth ward is a surgical ward situated on the fifth floor of the main ward block at Bedford Hospital South Wing. Shuttleworth ward has 32 beds, and cares mainly for patients having major surgery including urology, colorectal and gastrointestinal surgery. There are also patients on the ward who have had minor surgery and abdominal conditions.

When you arrive on the ward, staff will introduce themselves and orientate you to the ward. The nursing staff will also go through any necessary documentation and keep you informed about treatments and investigations

Visiting Times

Visiting times on the ward are 2pm to 4.30pm and 6.15pm to 8.15pm. Visiting is not permitted between 4.15pm and 6.30pm unless by prior arrangement and agreement with ward staff. This is to ensure patients have uninterrupted time in which to eat their evening meal. To find out more visit the  protected mealtimes section of the website. All visiting outside designated visiting hours must be agreed with the nurse in charge..

Please be aware that, for health and safety reasons, flowers and plants are not permitted on the ward, and only two visitors are permitted per bed.

If you would like to assist with the care of your relative outside of normal visiting hours, please speak to the nurse in charge.
