Howard ward is a surgical ward situated on the third floor of the main ward block at Bedford Hospital. Howard ward has 28 beds, and cares mainly for patients having elective orthopaedic and breast surgery.

When you arrive on the ward, you will be greeted by a member of the nursing staff and seen by the doctors who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Ward staff will prepare you for your surgery, and an anaesthetist will see you prior to going to the operating theatre.

Visiting Times

Visiting times on the ward are 2pm to 4.30pm and 6.15pm to 8.15pm. Visiting is not permitted between 4.15pm and 6.30pm unless by prior arrangement and agreement with ward staff. This is to ensure patients have uninterrupted time in which to eat their evening meal. To find out more visit the  protected mealtimes section of the website. All visiting outside designated visiting hours must be agreed with the nurse in charge.

Please be aware that, for health and safety reasons, flowers and plants are not permitted on the ward, and only two visitors are permitted per bed.

If you would like to assist with the care of your relative outside of normal visiting hours, please speak to the nurse in charge.
