Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you are entitled to access your clinical records or any other personal information held about you. You can contact the subject access office at the hospital to do this. The Freedom of Information Act (FOI) does not change the right of patients to protection of their patient confidentiality in accordance with the Data Protection Act, common law and Article 8 of the Human Rights Convention. Information Management and Technology Department

The information management and technology (IM&T) department’s purpose is to deliver the best practice IT systems, and maintain critical IT and information business systems.

The NHS is changing the way it works. Its vision for the future is to have a more modern, efficient, patient-led health service and to give patients more choice and control over their own health and care. Information and IM&T is critical to that process.

Accurate information is crucial for patients to have choice and receive the right care at the right time. A key aim of IM&T is to give healthcare professionals access to patient information safely, securely and easily, whenever it is needed.

The IM&T department is currently implementing the Connecting for Health programme, formally known as National Programme for IT. Connecting for Health is a multi-billion pound infrastructure project which will improve patient care by enabling clinicians and other NHS staff to increase their efficiency and effectiveness.
