Bedford Hospital works to ensure its healthcare professionals and their colleagues are equipped with the best knowledge, skills and attitude to play their part in delivering a first class, modern health service.

Programmes

The education department provides a varied programme of education for medical and multidisciplinary staff including Foundation Training, junior doctors and departmental teaching, student teaching, GP and dental programmes, advanced life support courses and ALERT training.

The clinical skills centre, which is based in the medical institute, facilitates formal, informal and self-directed learning. More information about the medical institute can be found via the below link.

Lifelong Learning

The Bevan Library provides access to all NHS staff and students in the hospital and surrounding area to support and promote lifelong learning and enable evidence based research and the development of good practice. Books, journals and information can be accessed on-line in addition to the hard copy resources available.

University and Higher Education Links

The hospital is an Associate Teaching Hospital for Cambridge and Leicester University undergraduate clinical schools and is a campus for University of Bedfordshire Faculty of Health and Social Sciences undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

It has established strong links with Cranfield University in areas of education and research and is an approved centre for the provision of advanced life support courses.

Bedford Hospital works closely with the Eastern Deanery and the Strategic Health Authority to implement a programme of postgraduate and continuing education for doctors, dentists and GP’s in the hospital and surrounding area and to champion multidisciplinary education.
