Cardiovascular X-rays are specialised examinations which take place in the cardiac cathetisation suite. In this area procedures are used to demonstrate the blood vessels and heart by x-rays. This may involve injection of contrast agents and insertion or small catheters and tubes into the blood vessels under local anaesthetic. Full details of the procedure and any preparation needed will be explained in your appointment letter.
Below is a picture which shows the type of equipment we use for these examinations and an example of the images that are produced - the blood vessels supplying the heart are shown in dark grey.
In the suite there is a small ward area to care for you before and after the procedure with specialised nurses and other staff experienced in these procedures.
